Poynter Primary School has an outstanding music program. The program focuses on developing students’ skills, knowledge and understandings through a robust and comprehensive classroom program. Students use voice, movement and a wide range of percussion instruments to learn and consolidate the elements of Music. Their skills and understanding are expressed through various forms of performances which include but are not limited to: a biennial musical production; assembly items, a range of concert performances and engagement with community festival events.
Year 3 to 6 students participate in a school production every second year. Students audition for speaking roles, sing, dance, create props and backdrops, manage programs and backstage requirements and assist with lighting, sound and music.
Our concert performances showcase the ensemble groups: Year 5 Training Band, Year 6 Concert Band, Orchestra, String Ensemble. These groups participate in the ABODA Orchestra and Band Festivals as well as school based performances such as the Music Assembly.
The Year 5/6 Senior Choir participates in the Massed Choir Festival every second year, and, with the Orchestra and String Quartet, participate in the outstanding ANZAC Dawn Service held at school.
The end of year musical Soirees held over two nights are an opportunity for parents and relatives to enjoy a feast of music making from all the ensembles and the choir as well as the individual instrumental classes.
