Poynter Primary School has an outstanding music program. The program focuses on developing students’ skills, knowledge and understandings through various forms of performances, these include but are not limited to: the musical production; the concert performances and the district and network workshops.
Our students participate in the school production every second year. We rotate the year levels in two sections: years 1 to 3 and 4 to 6. The school production involves every student in the year levels. Students audition for speaking roles, sing, dance, create props and backdrops, manage programs and backstage requirements and assist with lighting, sound and music.
Our concert performances included all ensemble groups: Training Band, Concert Band, Orchestra, Senior Chamber Ensemble, Year 5/6 Senior Choir, which included participation in the ABODA Orchestra and Band Festivals, Massed Choir Festival, school Music Assembly, ANZAC Dawn Service and end of year musical Soirees spread over two nights due to the large number of students participating in the instrumental program.
Peripatetic teachers offer instruction to talented children from Years 3-6 on violin, viola, cello, percussion, flute, clarinet, double bass and brass instruments. These children form the School Orchestra and String Ensemble and give performances during the year.
