Poynter Primary School offers an outstanding art program. The art program focuses on developing a skill based approach throughout the year levels.
In the lower grades the Colour Wheel is introduced along with appropriate language to be used when discussing colour in artworks. In the upper grades the Elements of Art, along with the Colour Wheel, are used by the students when viewing artworks including their own.
Drawing skills including Observed and Contour Drawing are used from Year 1 up and the Year 4 themes of Mood and Colour produced some very good works.
Students at Poynter will develop skills in Drawing, Painting, Ceramics and Print making throughout their Primary School years. They might also be involved in creating stage props for the annual Theatrical Production.
Every year our specialist art teacher, Mr. Terry Wilson, submits students’ artwork in The Shaun Tan Art Award for Young Artists. This is an Australia wide competition and in 2016 we again had several students’ artwork represented in the finals. A Poynter PS student from the Lower Primary Category was a winner and in the Middle Primary Category our student won second place. Congrarulations!
